TVN Group Announces 2009 Results
TVN Group, Poland’s leading media group, announced today its results for the fourth quarter and full year 2009. The ’n’ DTH platform reached 692 thousand active subscribers as of the end of 2009. At the same time “Telewizja na karte” (TNK) enjoys 262 thousand active pre-paid customers.
The ’n’ DTH platform increased its post paid subscriber number by over 199 thousand in the twelve months ended December 31, 2009. In the fourth quarter ’n’ increased its post paid subscriber number by over 120 thousand.
Al Jazeera Sports in 3D and HD
Al Jazeera Sports, the popular Arabic-language sports channel , will broadcast the upcoming World Cup in South Africa in 3D format in collaboration with FIFA. FIFA World Cup (South Africa 2010) is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 11, 2010.
Al Jazeera Sports is currently in the process of creating two 3G (3Gbps) studios that will be designed to facilitate better transmission of HD 1080p and 3D signals. As for the subscribers, they will have to shell out an extra charge on their existing subscriptions to view the channels in 3D . Furthermore, the 2010 World Cup will also be aired by Al Jazeera Sports in High-Definition (HD) format via satellite.
Al Jazeera Sports is one of the most profitable verticals of the international Al Jazeera Network and recently made several technical and business investments. Launched in November 2003, it has quickly grown and become the most popular sports channel in the Middle East, and has covered a wide range of major sporting events, such as the UEFA European Football Championship, Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics.
The Sports network recently purchased the rights to several premium sports broadcasts from ART. It is also in the process of building a brand new studio facility in addition to a 3G facility.
The first of the 3G studios is scheduled to be completed by mid February while the second is scheduled for completion at the end of March
DirecTV LATAM reached 3.88 million clients
DirecTV Latin America's incomes amounted to USD839 millions in 4Q09, a 47% increase compared to the USD 572 millions recorded in the same period in 2008 . DirecTV Latin America 2009 incomes amounted to USD 2,878 millions while the ARPU reached USD 62,67 in Q4/2009 , a 25% increase compared to the USD 50,09 recorded over the same period in 2008.
DirecTV Latin America's ( excluding Mexican Pay TV operations through Sky Mexico) total subscribers increased an 18% by 2009 end, thus reaching 4,59 million users as compared to the 3,88 million clients recorded by 2008 end. DirecTV also owns about the 41% of Sky Mexico that recorded 1,96 million subscribers by the end of 2009.
NDS Systems for On Digital Media S.A.
NDS Group announced that On Digital Media has selected NDS as technology provider and prime integrator to support the launch of DTH platform in South Africa. The new service, TopTV, will go live in Q2 2010.
On Digital Media will secure their MPEG4 DVB-S2-based service using NDS’ market-leading VideoGuard® conditional access technology. To enable the platform and provide the basis for future functionality, NDS MediaHighway® set-top box software and an NDS developed electronic programme guide (EPG) will also be implemented.
The launch of the TopTV platform will provide South Africans with a choice of satellite service providers.
W2 Satellite Out of Service - Replaced by 3 Alternative Satellite
Eutelsat Communications's W2 telecommunications satellite made by Thales Alenia Space and positioned at 16 degreees east suffered an anomaly on January 27 that has put is out of service . Eutelsat Communication managed to restore all the serices at this location using the Eurobird 16 positioned nearby at 15.8 degrees east and the W2M ו SESAT-1 that were transferred to the same neighbourhood for backup. Eutelsat Thales Alenia Space are now carrying out a full investigation into the anomaly
RRSat Launches New Platform on Hispasat
RRsat Global Communications Network Ltd. announced that it has launched a new platform for the distribution of Spanish and Portuguese language content into European markets over the Hispasat 1D satellite. The Spanish-language version of Moscow-based news channel Russia Today (RT) is RRsat's first customer for distribution through this platform
AMOS-5i Active at 17 Degrees East
Israeli satellite operator Spacecom has announced that its new satellite AMOS-5i has commenced regular service in new position at 17 degrees east. The satellite arrived at this location a few days ago. It will provide services for the company's new and existing customers in Africa. Thorbital position location is reserved for the AMOS-5 satellite scheduled for launche in 2011.
AMOS-5i is a temporary satellite which will provide bandwidth demand for the company's clients in this part of the world. It was previously owned by ASIASAT as ASIASAT-2.
Yamal-402 and Yamal-401 to Fly in 2012 and 2013
In a special meeting yearly meeting held by Russian Gazprom Space Systems company a series of measures aimed at launching satellites Yamal-401 and Yamal-402 has been approved . Yamal-402, will be positioned at 55 degrees east will be build by Thales Alenia Space in collaboration with JSC ISS. Its launched is scheduled for 2012. The Yamal-401 satellite launch is scheduled for 3012 and it will be posiitoned at 90 degrees east.
Both satellites will be launched by a Proton rocket. . The cost of the whole project is estimated at 430.5 million dollars .
Gazprom cuurently operated three satellites : Yamal-100, Yamal-201 and Yamal-202.
The Yamal-400 satellites series will be built on the Spacebus-4000C3 platform, developed by Thales Alenia Space and its expected life time is 15 years.
Orion Express launches Continent TV
Russian pay Tv provider Orion Express will launch in February a new pay TV service named CONTINENT TV which will be available via the Intelsat 15satellite operating at 85 degrees east.
CONTINENT TV will offer all the popular Russian and foreign language channels . CONTINENT TV subscribers will be able to compose a personal channel line-up . The new service will include channels in High Definition.
Recpeptuon of the service in the Russia's European territories will require a 60 cm. dish while in other territories a 80 to 90 cm. will be rquired. The service will be compressed in both MPEG-4 and DVB-S2 / MPEG-2, DVB-S and encrypted in Irdeto.
Orion Express services via the הלווין Express AM2 at 80 degrees east will continue as usual.
עWith the launch of Continent Tv. the Orion Express service via the Express AM2 will be terminated. Subscribers who currently watch Orion Express via thie ssatellite will be transferrred to the new package and those who wish to end their contract will be fully refunded.
